A Luxury Hen Weekend in Barcelona

A group of friends contacted us from Bristol, UK, looking for a luxury hen weekend in Barcelona — but not the usual kind.
The Brief
They were arriving on Friday and flying home on Sunday, and wanted to make the most of their time in Spain. Their ideal weekend would combine outdoor activities and relaxation with gastronomy, wine, shopping, the beach and, of course, a great night out.
The brief was clear: create a private, tailor-made celebration with plenty of variety, a touch of adventure and a distinctly Catalan feel.
Their ideal plan was to stay somewhere original outside Barcelona for the first night; include a cycling experience, a Tai Chi session, brunch, wine tasting and some trekking; leave time for shopping and the beach; and finish Saturday with dinner and a night out. They also wanted the weekend to feel exclusive and relaxed rather than like a standard hen party.
The Challenge
For a group travelling from the UK, Barcelona and Catalonia offered the perfect setting. Within a relatively small area, we could combine countryside, mountains, vineyards and the Mediterranean. On paper, the programme was not particularly complicated.
The real challenge was the timing. They contacted us **just 3 days before arrival**.
For reasons they never went into, their original programme — booked months in advance — had fallen through. They suddenly needed an alternative, and they needed it fast. We took a breath, asked them for a few hours to see what we could put together, and got to work.
"My first impression was that the brief was extremely packed, and that the wish list was perhaps a little too long. But as I started working through the timings, I realised it could all be done without making the weekend feel exhausting. It was really a matter of choosing the right places and activities very carefully, and coordinating closely with the guides for the two guided experiences to make sure everything ran smoothly and there were no delays."

Our Proposal
We decided that the simplest solution was not to spend the first night in Barcelona.
Instead, we chose a collection of cabins surrounded by woodland, around an hour from the city. Our driver met the group at the airport and took them directly there.
The setting immediately changed the pace of the weekend.
On arrival, they collected their bikes and had time to explore the forest before heading to dinner. The evening was deliberately relaxed: good food, drinks and plenty of time to catch up together in the property’s social area. It was a very different way to begin a hen weekend in Barcelona.
From the Forest to Montserrat to a local winery.
The following morning started with breakfast at 09.00 and a 45-minute private Tai Chi session. At 10:30, we picked them up and headed towards Montserrat, one of Catalonia’s most distinctive landscapes. There, a private guide introduced them to the area with a short cultural tour before taking them on a one-hour trek through the surrounding countryside. It was the perfect combination of culture and outdoor activity; active enough to feel like an experience, but without turning the weekend into an endurance challenge.
From Montserrat, we continued to a local winery. Here, the group enjoyed a traditional Catalan brunch and a wine tasting, taking time to discover some of the region’s local wines and flavours. It was one of those moments when the Catalan way of doing things comes naturally: good food, local wine and plenty of time around the table.
Shopping, Sitges and the Mediterranean
By 4:00 pm, it was time for a change of pace. We took the group to a designer outlet with a wide selection of brands, including several luxury labels. They had time to browse, shop and enjoy a little retail therapy before the evening began. At 7:00 pm, we picked them up and drove them to their hotel in Sitges, on the Mediterranean coast.
After checking in, they had a couple of hours to relax, freshen up, and enjoy the hotel before heading out for dinner and a night out in Sitges.
The location worked perfectly. After a day that had taken them from the mountains to the vineyards and then to the coast, they could finish the evening with the energy and party atmosphere of one of Catalonia’s best-known seaside towns.
Sunday by the Sea
Sunday morning was deliberately left open. After such a full Saturday, there was no reason to fill every minute. The group had time to enjoy the beach, slow down and make the most of their final hours by the Mediterranean before we took them back to the airport.
It was a compact weekend, but every element of the brief was there: cycling, Tai Chi, trekking, Catalan gastronomy, wine, shopping, the beach and a proper night out.
Every group and every brief is different. Our role is not simply to arrange the experiences requested, but to use our knowledge of Spain to find the right alternatives, refine the itinerary and, when appropriate, suggest changes that can make the experience better.
Sometimes that means rethinking part of the original brief. Sometimes, as in this case, the brief is already exactly right.
